All of a sudden I see images of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Jessica Simpson, and Adrianna Lima. Confused. Yet, I was intrigued by the show's plot: true love waits. It was a special focused on the new idea of marketing sex without sex, the new 'pop-culture' movement of virgins. Apparently, what sells to impressionable youth nationwide is the proclimation that you still haven't had sex. Who would have thought that NO-sex sells?
So here lies the exasperating question, is your virginity really that important?
At my age, sex becomes a reality. It's a topic of study, conversation, entertainment, and emotion so intense that it's revolutionizing our daily lives!
Adolecense overflows with hormones, urges, emotions, and sexual self discovery; assuming that advertisers capitalizing on saving it til marriage is a substantial message for youth is naive. There are plenty of girls and boys who will willingly engage in intercourse because they're ready, but will abstain from contraception because no one told them why the fuck they have to!
I sincerely understand and respect the decision of these teens and the use of their celebrity to publicize abstinence, but shouldn't there be a sign that POPS up behind them that says, "if not, USE A CONDOM!" Fact: All of my friends who are now mothers didn't use condoms.
Sex and virginity are going to be in a constant battle until the end of time. As far as media goes, they'll sell what they can and right now...it's NO sex.
