Getup Threads

It's hard for me to take pictures of what I'm wearing when I'm California cause I don't have an automatic timer on my camera and there isn't anyone who will put up with me everyday to take them. So for now expect some random shots and a lot of outfit composers!

It's Africa Hot right now. I don't know why especially since it's been overcast for almost a week now. Regardless, I'm dying in the heat so I couldn't be bothered to wear too much today or try and look super cute.

Which brings us to our monthly WIFEBEATER DAY! Today's wife beater day was a bit difficult because I've compiled a huge accessory collection since I've been here so couldn't figure out which shoes to match with earrings or if I wanted to wear a necklace.

Start out with:
Add:
(Skinny Jeans obvi because I'm currently obsessed.)

Old Sac/Getup Threads (Baby edition)

I'm finally back from my trip to Sacramento, or as they so graciously call it 'New Sac.' I couldn't have had a better time you paid me to be there. It's always been hard for me to split my time between my maternal and paternal families (especially since everyone is spread from Vancouver to London) but I'm so glad that I had the chance to visit my big brother (paternal) in SacTown!

I spent the majority of the time bugging my adorable nephew and bonding with my AMAZING sister in law. We've known each other for 8 years but only see each other at weddings or family reunions so we've never had a real opportunity to bond. We had a 15 min discussion on Team Edward vs. Team Jacob which in turn lead us to sneaking out of the house so we could go and see Eclipse. We decided if we were the same age, we would have been the perfect roommates.

Look at his Cheeks.
After he took a three hour nap on me I thought he'd be ready to play, no he wanted to sleep more.

His clothes are on backwards, new parents-what to do!
The earrings are clip on vintage Chanel, I have my ears pieced but pulling them off at the end of the day like Grace Kelly makes me feel so glamourous.
Shirts I made him, the one on the right is an inside joke with my little sister.
I miss him already!
I wore a couple of cute outfits but didn't take any full outfit post pictures, sorry! But here are some super cute baby outfits I bought/made...:D

Until tomorrow...

Getup Threads

I'm at work and in a super fantastical supurbulous mood today! Prob b/c I talked to one of my bffs last night and he made me realize how truly blessed I am right now. I've been kind of moppy and miserable in LA since I've arrived but never downright sad. Having a constant gloom over your day to day life can be tiring on your mental health so it was a refreshing change!

Anyways, I've had an interesting day at work today because my boss bought a new puppy (he's 90 lbs but i still think he's a puppy) and he's entertaining as crap. He sits, rolls over, plays dead, and high fives. Their first dog dislikes the puppy so he's been sitting in my lap all day...
This is Joey, the jealous baby of the family

Here's a hair post too, I feel so Dorothy Dandrige today, and I'm sticking with it.

Getup Threads

I've always been a hippie at heart, but being in So Cal is nothing less than inspiring. Everyone here has such an effortlessly chic and organic, I love it. Here was my attempt to be as beautiful and simple as everyone around me.

The jacket I have is so old it's almost vintage, I got it from Forever 21 years ago and it's still one of my favorite pieces. It looks like this one from Buckle but mine is cropped and faded a little more. I felt so chic yet comfortable all day, and all the materials were surprisingly light so I wasn't burning up

Shirt: H&M
Jacket: Forever 21 (Buckle)
Jeans: Old Navy Rockstars
Shoes: Payless
Bag: Urban Outfitters

Electric Daisy Carnival

One of the advantages of being in California is the music and festivals that take place all over the state! Lucky for me most of them are held during the summer and this weekend is the

ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL!!!!

It's a giant techno fest with carnival rides, a concert and carnival in one. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!

Anyways I don't know what to wear so I'm taking a impromptu (yea right) shopping trip today! Someone told me I should wear my Bright Outfit which is actually great inspiration. I was thinking headscarf, pink keds, and some neon duds.

Any suggestions?

Getup Threads

This isn't exactly an outfit post but due to my lack thereof I figured I'd post a hair post! I'm staying at my sister's place while she's on here honeymoon because it's dramatically closer for me to go to my internship. I woke up at like 7 as per every other day but didn't have to wake up until 8:30!

So what did I do-Easy! Watched Saved by the Bell reruns and played with my hair.

This is the perfect look after you've rocked some beach waves for a few days and want to change it up and show off your summer glow!

1. Comb through your hair with your fingers to get it smooth and in order to remove some of the frizz.
2. Put a small amount of product (moose, gel, serum) in your palms and rub it from your forehead to your crown along your roots in order to prevent frizz and is maintained throughout the day.
3. An inch behind the top of your ear take a square centimeter of hair (make sure it's a long piece and not a layer) Comb and straighten if necessary.
4. Tightly braid the piece to the end and fasten with a rubber band (using a rubber material is better than a fabric scrunchie in this case)
5. Tease the crown of your head and secure all of your hair in a pony tail without the braid.
6. Take the braid across your head and secure with a safety pin on the other side!

Tips:
Tuck the braid under hair so the rubber band isn't seen and secure with a bobby pin.
Tease and curl pony tail if needed for more dramatic look.

I hate the fact that I can never find fake braids in my hair color and this was my quick solution. My only complaint was that it was one of those days where you look supercute but no one sees your outfit. Oh well...I did!

Brown Girl Magazine

A few weeks ago I became the Beauty & Fashion Writer for Brown Girl Magazine, a wonderful magazine aimed at young American Indian girls. I love the concept and I love the website even more! Here's my first post for the magazine...
