Falta Epica-Day 2

I decided you can't see the extent of my epic fail on the last post, so here's a better picture. Normally I would hide away for days until it was fixed...but I'm in a rut.

Simple as that.

Since I've been looking for a great picker upper all day, I decided to try and put a smile on other people's faces. So my dear friends, hope this makes you laugh!

I'm pretty sure it'd be cheaper to dye my eyebrows rather than my whole freakin head.

Let me know if it put a smile on your face!

Until Tomorrow...

PLUS size model MINUS the color?

Jezebel Magazine reposted an article originally by blogger red, vinyl shoes about how the plus size model industry (including the new vogue italia curvy) lacks color. She focuses on the assumed acceptance of plus size women in the black community and how in reality big black women are taunted and devalued.

She makes some great points on how the primary markets for fatshionistas are colored women; looking at the fatshionista blogsphere-there are a couple of Caucasian bloggers but the rest are all women of some color.

Here's the article

Falta Epica

I understand that everyone has their beauty fail stories, and I've had my share of epic mistrials. But today I thought that I was a seasoned stylist who would have no problem dying my hair really quickly at 11 p.m. I didn't want to wait another 5 days when I planned to wash my hair again so I figured why not? I've dyed it at 10-15 times before (including once when i had a dark red lions mane and once when I highlighted my flyaways blonde.)

Can we say EPIC FAIL?

I have naturally medium brown hair that I loved. I say loved because I haven't had it that color since I was 15 when I got the afore mentioned bleach blonde tiger stripes. Ever since then I've dyed my hair every shade of brown possible. No exaggeration: auburn, mahogany, ash, caramel, chocolate, maroon, umber, sienna, sandy, orange, and everything in between. For my sisters wedding I dyed my hair a dark chocolate brown and decided last week that I was going to go back to a light brown.

I got the urge today after some great news (keep ur fingers crossed and I'll let you know asap) so I decided to get my mom to dye it. Mind you she's dyed it 75% of the time when I do it so that was not the issue, the issue was when I decided to listen to her about how to treat it after.

Mistake 1: I normally leave it in for 25-30 mins, I left it in for 45-50
Mistake 2: I normally resume normal activity while waiting, I turned the fan off and tried to get my body temp up.
Mistake 3: I didn't shampoo it out (I know you're not supposed to but with my hair it's always worked better if I do)
Mistake 4: I didn't fix it when she left my roots in extra long

DRUMROLL PLEASE...............

I'm a mess, I can't dye it for another week because I don't want to damage my hair. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it? What crazy things have you done to your hair?

Disappointment

Excited would have been the understatement of the month when expressing my excitment for this past Saturday's SNL. As a long time SNL fan (I've missed maybe 8 episodes since 2001) I've been underwhelmed by this past season despite the amazing (male+kristen) cast. But not this week, this week Gaborey Sidibe of Precious fame was hosting, and although I didn't know she was a comedic actor, the previews had me peeing in my pants.

Then the episode started, and this was the best clip of the whole movie

Did anyone else watch it? What'd you think?

Song of the Day

I used to be obsessed with Usher, in fact there's still a picture of him naked on the back of my bedroom door. I wasn't impressed by the first single off his new album, Daddy's home, probobly because I'm uncomfortable with calling anyone daddy in a sexual way. I like to think the song was for his precious sons. Anyway, I <3 his new single and have decided to start my week with it!

Check, Check, Check it out...

Winter to Summer

Building a winter wardrobe takes hours of relentless searching and pairing until you find pieces that are functional while classy. The worst thing is when you have to pack away your peacoats and gloves until the next winter. Well fear not! Here are some fabulous pieces that you can take from your winter wardrobe and reinvent them into fab summer outfits!

Boots
You spent a good deal of money on your chic boots to help you survive through the winter and now they’re rotting away in the back of your closet. Well pull them back out and pair them with a cute summer dress! Boots are perfect for events like concerts, festivals, and fairs where you want to be comfy but keep it cute. Add some chunky bangles or some Hollywood sunnies to protect your eyes and finish off the look.
Blazer
This winter I loved dressing up a casual outfit by throwing a blazer on top of it. Luckily, you can keeping rocking your blazers through the summer by pairing it with a feminine detailed top or a plain tank. Make sure you wear it with shorts so that you don’t die of a heat stroke and add a pair of strappy heels to add a girly edge.
Flannel
All winter long girls were diving into their boyfriends (or buying the boyfriend looking) flannel shirts. The grunge effect is a perfect summer look that won’t make you break the bank. Find a vintage or message tee and throw it under your favorite flannel shirt. Pair it with a pair of distressed shorts (essential summer piece!) and add a cute hairpin or a hat and you’re ready to go!

Scarf
I think I own too many scarves. That being said, I justify them by using the ever so versatile pieces throughout the year. Scarves are a perfect way to mix patterns and color blocks in the winter. Wear your favorite tank and wrap the scarf around your neck like a cowl and pair them with some great jeggings! (Side note: This is a great outfit to throw on when you’re running late but still need to look great!)

My sister put up pictures of my Bright Day outfit that I wore last week!

Excuse the stupid expression and hair covering my earrings.

Happy Monday!

Spawning Stimulation

I ended up running late this morning (I felt like sleeping in instead of getting ready, can you blame me?) I did manage to wear my mom's vintage sunglasses that I've seen EVERYWHERE lately. The drive this morning was beautiful, I had my windows down and broke out one of my summer playlists. There's nothing quite like the feeling of coasting along while the sun beats down on you and the wind kisses your face.

Doesn't she look like alyson hannigan as a blonde? My sunglasses with a gold frame instead of copper.

Does true love REALLY wait?

I got out of class early today (because for some reason in Georgia, March = snow) and while lounging around caught a show on VH1 called "The New Virginity." I figured like most of VH1's award winning programming it was some scantly clad 'babes' facing their daddy issues and lack of attention from men on national television, so naturally I eagerly tuned in. What? I love reality TV!

All of a sudden I see images of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Jessica Simpson, and Adrianna Lima. Confused. Yet, I was intrigued by the show's plot: true love waits. It was a special focused on the new idea of marketing sex without sex, the new 'pop-culture' movement of virgins. Apparently, what sells to impressionable youth nationwide is the proclimation that you still haven't had sex. Who would have thought that NO-sex sells?

Take the JoBros- three talentedly, dashing, young men who take pride in wearing a promise ring on their left hand. They have never hidden their strong personal belief in saving sexual intercourse for marriage, yet most of their fans would pay millions to jump them...naked.

So here lies the exasperating question, is your virginity really that important?

At my age, sex becomes a reality. It's a topic of study, conversation, entertainment, and emotion so intense that it's revolutionizing our daily lives!

Adolecense overflows with hormones, urges, emotions, and sexual self discovery; assuming that advertisers capitalizing on saving it til marriage is a substantial message for youth is naive. There are plenty of girls and boys who will willingly engage in intercourse because they're ready, but will abstain from contraception because no one told them why the fuck they have to!

I sincerely understand and respect the decision of these teens and the use of their celebrity to publicize abstinence, but shouldn't there be a sign that POPS up behind them that says, "if not, USE A CONDOM!" Fact: All of my friends who are now mothers didn't use condoms.

Sex and virginity are going to be in a constant battle until the end of time. As far as media goes, they'll sell what they can and right now...it's NO sex.
